Dental Hygienist

Case Study
40-Year-Old Female presented with Fibromyalgia

A 40 year-old female presented with fibromyalgia, generalized debilitating pain, headaches, back, neck, shoulder, and jaw pain, lack of energy, brain fog, sleep disturbances, inability to perform any daily activities, wide variety of endocrine system problems, and had to leave her career as a dental hygienist.

She had been through all the traditional treatments including physical therapy, massage therapy, and had been through several fibromyalgia "programs".  The doctors had tried to regulate her hormones.  She was taking a large amount of pain medication, anti-depressants, muscle relaxers, and other prescription and over-the-counter medications.

When she showed up for her initial evaluation, I immediately saw that her pelvis unbalanced, she had a forward head, and upon palpation I found how tight her fascial structures were, causing more stress and strain and pressure on the body's systems.  For her to move, it would be like trying to move through a quagmire because everything was so tight and bound down.  She said no one had ever looked at the alignment of her body or the structural imbalances.

The first thing I did was to balance her pelvis and try to elongate her body, taking off the compression forces.  I began to release the OA junction to help oxygenate the brain and alleviate some of her brain fog.  I tried to begin to balance the CranioSacral rhythm, to help release the toxins from the brain and start bringing in nutrients to the brain tissue.  I also tried to open the dural tube to stimulate the central nervous system.

After the first visit, she reported better sleep patterns and after several days she felt she had more energy.  She felt that even though she had some soreness after the treatment, the benefits were obvious.

During subsequent visits, I worked on more of the same issues going deeper into the restrictions and addressing other restrictions as I found them.  After several visits, her pelvis was balanced.  She was feeling fewer restrictions in movement, some of the endocrine system issues were beginning to resolve, the brain fog was lifting and some of her functional abilities were improved.

After approximately three months of treatment, she reported that she had been able to begin exercising again and now felt like a "mom" again because she was able to do more things with her children.  She had drastically reduced the amount and types of medication that she was taking.

We continued to see her regularly for approximately two years.  During that time, most of her endocrine system problems resolved.  Her sleep disturbances disappeared and her sleep was now more regular.  She had a marked decrease in overall pain.  She reported only occasional mild headaches, and no longer has migraines.  She was able to return to a fully functional lifestyle with the ability to keep up with an active teenager.
