2004 Tibet Excursion

Frankie Burget was privileged to be co-chairperson of the People to People Ambassador Program Pain Management Delegation to China and Tibet in July, 2004.  It was a fabulous once in a lifetime experience.

She was nominated for this position because she is a fellow with the American Academy of Pain Management and Research.  She was chosen for the position because of her vast experience and the work done at Windsong Therapy and Wellness, Inc.  The Delegation was comprised of physicians, nurses, and psychologists who are leaders in their respective fields.

This is the first Delegation that has been allowed to visit Tibet. It is a rare honor to be exposed to the ancient Tibetan teachings and was accorded the Delegation due to the nature of the subject matter being discussed.  Dr. Nima of the First Tibetan Medical Hospital, the largest and best hospital in Tibet, has invited Frankie back to Tibet to study with him.

Frankie was asked to do an assessment of Mr. Cheng, a 63 year-old gentleman with diabetes, by Dr. Li, the head of the Diabetes unit at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Hospital in front of the doctors and students of the hospital, as well as the Delegation.   Dr. Li was impressed by the way she had integrated traditional and western ideas to look at the body in a more inclusive fashion.  He thanked her for helping him to see the body in a way he had not considered before, and called additional students to hear what she had to say.

Dr. Barry Cole, the leader of this Delegation, has asked Frankie to consider being certified as a teacher with the Academy of Pain Management and Research.  Frankie is looking forward to future trips with People to People Delegations.

Below are some photos of Frankie's experiences on this trip.
